Afternoon at our House

Afternoon is my favorite time of the day. Cool fall afternoons are the most beautiful.

I don't know why. It might go back to when I was a child. One of my first memories is of afternoon at our house in Los Angeles. I always remember waiting until my sister and father got home. I would wait in the driveway and it was always at that time of the day.

I used to spend the day with my mom who worked from home. I was also alone most of the day playing. I never minded that because I loved being alone playing games with imaginary friends. I have always liked being alone. Yes, I was a strange child.

Afternoons meant that my sister would be home and we could play. It also meant my papi would be home and we could play.

I would sit outside alone and wait. I remember those beautiful Los Angeles afternoons. The light would filter through the trees in our yards. I remember the poinsettia plants in the driveway. I remember the fresh air. The flowers and watching the other kids come home from school. After 5pm the neighbors would start slowly trickling into the neighborhood.

Now these could all be false memories since I was very young. This was when I was like 4-5 years old, not quite school age, but I do believe it is why I love afternoons so much.

The other day, we got home from Asheville in the afternoon.  It reminded me of those long lost days in Los Angeles. Maybe it was the breeze blowing through the trees. Maybe it was the light filtering down. I don't know but it made me happy and I decided to document it. So here is my version of afternoon at our house. Enjoy.

  1. If my afternoons looked like that, I'd surely love them too!

  2. Lucky you to have such beauty around to look at. Beautiful colors, thanks for sharing.
